Scarlet & Violet kicks off the Scarlet & Violet Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, focusing on Koraidon and Miraidon, both featured as Pokémon ex. It's the first to incorporate elements from the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games, including Pokémon, items, characters, and locations. Notably, certain Pokémon ex introduce the new Tera mechanic inspired by the Terastal phenomenon from the games, akin to Ancient Traits.
This expansion brings significant design tweaks to the Pokémon TCG, set to roll out with Scarlet & Violet. Internationally, yellow borders on cards will transition to gray, aligning with Japanese releases for a more unified visual experience worldwide. Expansion symbols will be replaced by codes, and language codes will feature prominently. Booster packs will now guarantee three Holofoil cards, up from two, with all Rare cards being holofoil. Trainer card subcategories will be more visible, and Basic Energy cards will include an additional Energy symbol for easier tracking during play. Pokémon Tool cards will now be categorized alongside Item, Supporter, and Stadium cards, marking a shift from their previous status as Item card subcategories.
